Program Description:  During each academic year at Southwest Minnesota State University, students have the opportunity to participate in one of several Global Studies travel opportunities in which they learn through involvement and participation, as well as develop valuable learning skills and lifelong friendships.

Program Offerings:

Clusters: Designed especially for first and second year students, Clusters are integrated around a theme or region of global significance.  Regular Cluster students register for five courses: the one credit Voyage; a three credit team taught Seminar focusing on the site and issue, and three basic courses. At least two, and usually all three, basic courses are typically from the Liberal Arts Curriculum. Students who have already completed their LAC requirements may participate in a Cluster by applying to be a Global Studies Student Mentor. Participation in a Global Studies cluster is limited to 25 students per cluster. The Voyage is typically two weeks at the end of the semester.

Seminars: Faculty may also choose to offer a stand alone three credit Seminar course focusing on a current issue and related travel site.  Participation is limited to 25 students per Seminar. The Voyage is one to two weeks at the end of the semester.

Experiences: The one credit Global Issues and Events course is used for trips of shorter duration, usually with one week or less as travel time. In class time is devoted to focusing on a current issue and the related travel site.  Fall or Spring Break may be used as travel times, but it may also go at the end of a semester. Participation is limited to 25 students per Experience.

Application Forms and Information on Current Offerings are available both at the CH 101 offfice and online.
